Meet The Artist: Asha Kalifa
Asha Kalifa
Asha’s journey as an artist is anything other than conventional. Having obtained a law degree from Manchester University in 2018 and ultimately qualifying and serving as a police constable, Asha’s true love remained art – and, in particular, her unique style of mixed-media art.
Inspiration
She has a love for nature and texture and often relies on the relationship this has with human existence for inspiration, which she combines to great effect in her most popular series, ‘Roses’. This series is inspired by the Japanese Wabi-Sabi interior design, a unique minimalist aesthetic described by some as looking into life and design as ‘imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete’.
Of her ‘Roses’ series, Asha says:
“I wanted to create a series of artworks that seek to remind others to ‘give themselves their flowers’, and to give themselves grace for how far they have come.
I wanted to remind the viewer that even when things aren’t going right, that life is ever changing just like nature.”
A Leap of Faith
In 2024, Asha took a leap of faith and decided to take a break from the more unnatural delights she encountered at closing time on the high street whilst in uniform to focus exclusively on turning her true passion for art into a business. This resulted in her successful debut at the international Holy Art Gallery, a gallery specialising in contemporary art from both emerging and established artists.
